Thieving in Bollywood is getting bigger with every passing year. You are either a solo stealer or have a band to support you in your steal. Happy New Year too is a story of how six losers come together to steal jewels worth millions. We have noticed the thieves in Bollywood generally go for jewels only. So here is a list of films that had jewel thieves stealing the show.
Jewel Thief
Dev Anand played a clueless stranger who is mistaken as a notorious jewel thief in Chetan Anand’s heist film Jewel Thief. They even unearth his love interest played by Vyajanthimala who try to convince him he is the Jewel Thief. But the truth is something else.
Sacha Jhootha
No wonder this was a blockbuster film because it has two Rajesh Khannas. In the 70s, nobody was as big as him. But rather than the theft, it is the motionless drug that stole the show here. HNY definitely took a leaf out of this film.
The Burning Train
Dharmendra, Jeetendra, Vinod Khanna, Hema Malini, Asrani, Parveen Babi, Danny Dengzongpa, Simi Garewal, Vinod Mehra, Ranjeet, Neetu Singh, Kushboo. A train from Delhi to Mumbai is carrying a smuggler (Ranjeet) fleeing with stolen diamonds. When the train catches fire, he tries to escape to another train, but falls off.
Half Ticket
Kishore Kumar plays an undaunted young guy who doesn’t know what the package that he is carrying holds. Pran has slipped diamonds in it and Kishore in unaware about it.
Delhi Belly
In a bid to make some quick bucks and settle their problems forever, three guys try to sell the diamonds they find in a package from a doctor’s office. But things go wrong a goon threaten them with dire consequences, if they don’t retrieve it.
Shalimar
The film that inspired Farah Khan to get her own version is perhaps the only convincing theft film in Indian cinema. A ruby is kept safe behind a bulletproof glass, protected by a minefield around. But Zeenat Aman and Dharmendra both have their eyes locked on the jewel.
Shaan
Although this movie is about revenge, we cannot ignore the perfect thieving party Parveen Babi hosts for Bindu to steal diamond necklace. But there are others who have their eyes fixed on it too, like Amitabh Bachchan, Shashi Kapoor and Bindiya Goswami.
Heera Panna
True, the only thing people remember from this film is Zeenat Aman looking great. That’s truly very distracting for men but if you may have noticed something, the plot was about a necklace steal. Dev Anand stole the necklace and Zeenat Aman wants to steal it from him.
Special Chabbis
Akshay Kumar plays a mastermind who puts together fake interview sessions so that he can lay his hands at some of the most expensive jewels from a jewellery store. Perfectly planned, it is one of the most devious ploys and a real one at that.
Happy New Year
Shah Rukh Khan, leads a gang of ‘losers’ in a diamond heist in Dubai in the disguise of entering a dance competition. Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan,Boman Irani, Sonu Sood and Vivaan Shah co-star.
