MUMBAI: Salman Khan’s sequel to the 2010 superhit film ‘Dabangg’; ‘Dabangg 2’ is a mere couple of hours away from its theatrical release, and there is tremendous positive buzz
Most multiplex chains are very optimistic about the film’s performance at the ticket windows. PVR Cinemas, COO Mr. Gautam Datta spoke to businessofcinema.com, and confirmed, “As of today, we have sold nearly 80,000 seats so far for ‘Dabangg 2’. For the next 7-8 days, the occupancy rate stands well above 80% average. And considering the film is releasing around Christmas time, the numbers we will see will only get bigger.”
An insider tell us, “On its release, ‘Dabangg’ had crossed the Rs 140 crore mark and two years down the line, the buzz as well as the market has increased manifold. Moreover this is a true blue sequel. The hype is unprecedented and there is no reason why Rs 200 crores won’t be a possibility.”
Revealed another insider, “100 crore is passé now, not just for him (Salman) but every superstar worth his salt. Akshay Kumar, Shah Rukh Khan, Ajay Devgn and now even Ranbir Kapoor has cracked it. The new ‘mantra’ is 200 crore. Now Salman is the one who can take a possible shot at that mark.”
This time around, the film has various elements that can set the cash registers ringing. Salman Khan’s return to celluloid in his most revered avatar: that of the fearless, morally challenged yet lovable cop Chulbul Pandey, is sure to earn him whistles and cheers from the front benchers.
Sonakshi Sinha too, will reprise her role as Rajjo in this sequel, this time as Salman’s wife. As we reported earlier, we will also see the glamorous on-screen couple play parents to a young son. And the list doesn’t end: for everyone is most eagerly awaiting Begum of Pataudi, Kareena Kapoor Khan’s very sexy item song ‘Fevicol Se’.
Add to that, Salman’s younger brother Arbaaz Khan has undertaken the reigns of direction in this installment of the film, and his gorgeous wife Malaika Arora Khan will make a very special appearance; and you’re sure the Khan camp has a real winner on their hands.
