MUMBAI: Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan along with director Rohit Shetty, came up with a unique idea for the first look poster of their next ‘Chennai Express’ – They decided to dress up actress Deepika Padukone in a ‘lungi’!
Deepika who is working with SRK for the second time (after her debut in ‘Om Shanti Om’) revealed, “The idea to wear a ‘lungi’ is not mine actually. It was Shah Rukh and Rohit who came up with it. We had to quickly do a photo shoot because we were losing the light. They were like ‘Why don’t we give her this ‘lungi’ and make her look modern’.”
Interestingly, in the hurried scenario Deepika had to borrow co-star Shah Rukh’s lungi! Says Deepika, “The shirt that I am wearing in the posters also belongs to SRK, only the sunglasses are mine.”
Wearing cocky sunglasses, ‘gajra’, ‘lungi’, and a t-shirt Deepika certainly caught our attention in the poster.
Adds the actress, “That’s something new and I hope it works.”
Highly acclaimed in 2012 for her rendition of Veronica in ‘Cocktail’ opposite Saif Ali Khan, the leggy lass has a packed year ahead. “It has been a good year but my next next six months are very demanding in terms of my schedule. I hope all the hard work pays. I have ‘Chennai Express’ and ‘Kochadaiyaan’ with Rajini (Rajinikanth) sir is also ready for release,” explains Deepika.
Deepika also has ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ opposite Ranbir Kapoor, and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Ram Leela’ opposite Ranveer Singh set to release this year.
What about Salman Khan’s ‘Kick’?
Deepika Padukone is non-commital, “That’s all speculation. It probably stems from the fact that I had expressed a desire to work with Salman Khan. There is nothing concrete on that film yet.”
