MUMBAI: It’s a sad time for the cinematic world, which seems to be suffering one loss after the other. Early today, film actor and comedian Jaspal Bhatti died in a road accident near Jalandhar.
Associate of the actor-director, Vinod Sharma said, “The car in he was traveling hit a trawler near Shahkot in Nakodar area of the district around 1 am. He was going to Jalandhar from Bhatinda for the promotion of his Punjabi film ‘Power Cut’ scheduled to be released tomorrow.”
The 57 year old’s son Jasraj, who was driving the car and film’s heroine Suril Gautam were injured and rushed to a hospital at Jalandhar.
“Mr Bhatti had been traveling during past few days for the promotion of his new film. The cremation is expected to take place later this evening after his body is brought to Chandigarh after completion of various legal formalities, including postmortem,” added Sharma.
Jaspal Bhatti most known for his bold commentary of political satire was part of television series ‘Flop Show’ and ‘Ulta Pulta’, which were a hit in the late 1980s and early 1990s. On hearing of his death, saddened actor Riteish Deshmukh tweeted, “RIP Jaspal Bhatti – superhit man from the ‘Flop Show’. Worked with him in my debut film ‘Tujhe Meri Kasam’-humble kind, happy, funny and helpful.”
Leaving behind wife Savita, a son and a daughter, Jaspal Bhatti was seen in Aamir Khan and Kajol’s ‘Fanaa’ where he played the role of a guard named Jolly Good Singh. bHe also played the role of a principal in ‘Koi Mere Dil Se Poochhe’ and was seen in Punjabi film ‘Jijaji’.
