Hollywood actor with Indian origin, Dev Patel travels all around the globe for the shoot of his films. However the actor revealed that he loves whatever time he gets to spend in India as it makes him feel closer to his roots and culture. Having worked in numerous films that have been extensively shot in India, Dev Patel who was born and brought up in India has good knowledge about the whereabouts of India.
Dev Patel who rose to stardom with his Oscar nominated film Slumdog Millionaire has acted in several films that were shot in India. Some of them being The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel starring ace actors like Richard Gere and The Man Who Knew Infinity, which is a movie based on the life of Indian mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan.
For The Man Who Knew Infinity Dev Patel spent a lot of time exploring the south side of India. The actor stated, “I spent a lot of time in southern India and did a lot of rehearsal with the director (Matthew Brown). A mathematician introduced us to the world of complex mathematics (on the set), and I’d be lying if I said I learned it, as it is so complex, that it went over my head.”
Talking about his love for India Dev Patel added, “It is a wonderful way to get in touch with your culture and with your roots. I’m constantly astounded whenever I go to India. I feel so inspired by the people I interact with and with the things that I see.” Dev is currently gearing up for the release of his film Chappie starringHugh Jackman that will come out on March 13 in India.
Dev Patel also revealed his love for Bollywood and voiced his opinion about who he thinks is the finest actor in India. “There are a couple of them. I would start with Shah Rukh Khan. He is my absolute favourite. And then, I have already worked with him but I would die to work with him again – Irrfan Khan and Nawazuddin (Siddiqui), these are my top favourites,” the 24-year-old actor said.
Dev Patel is currently shooting for his film Lion for which the actor was in Ujjain in India. Starring Nicole Kidman, Lion is directed by Garth Davis. Bollywood actors Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Priyanka Bose, Tannishtha Chatterjee and Deepti Naval will also be starring in the film.
