There were strong rumors that producer Aditya Chopra was very keen to cast Parineeti Chopra in the film, and Ali agreed that she was a strong contender. Ali Abbas Zafar agreed for Parineeti Chopra, but here is why he chose Anushka Sharma instead. Ali Abbas Zafar in an interview to a leading daily said that they were boiling down to things and they had considered Parineeti Chopra since she had that body type. They wanted Anushka Sharma, since he thought she was appropriate for the film. At the end of the day, he further said that as a director he could only go with his gut and instinct and so he just did that.
