Gulzar is one of the brilliant lyricists we have. Born as Sampooran Singh Kalra, on August 18, 1934, he turns 84 today. Although he is ageing, his pen and his words are strong enough to touch one’s heart. His poetries, his songs, his stories, everything is so exceptional that a person from any corner of the world can relate to it.
The lyricist expressed almost all human emotions in his words. He penned so many beautiful and heartwarming songs years ago that are still close to peoples’ heart today. As a fan, who’ve been listening to so many songs, all I can say that there can be no other Gulzar in this world. No doubt there are many talented lyricists in India and around the world, yet no one can be GULZAR. His use of Urdu words so exquisitely takes the feel of a song to another level. From songs like ‘Aap Ki Ankhon Mein Kuch’ to ‘Chhaiya Chhaiya’, the writer has given us many wonderful tracks to love and enjoy.
He is not only known for his spectacular love songs, he expresses every relation to every emotion in his words. The song Naam Goom Jayega expresses how a person will be remembered for his actions. A person’s face, name, and remains everything will just sweep away. Such an important instinct of human life is expressed by the legendary singer in extremely simple words. No doubt, he deserves all the National Awards he won.
People of every generation enjoys what he writes. What makes him more admiring is the simplistic person he is! His down to earth nature helped him win many followers, fans, and admirers. Gulzar has given us some priceless and heavenly words to enjoy for a lifetime. We hope he never stops writing and touches more of our emotions which even we don’t know exist.
