Jail Authorities Deny Home Food To Sanjay Dutt, Despite Court Order

PUNE: It has just been a few days since Sanjay Dutt has been brought to Pune’s Yerwada Jail. The actor is serving his remainder sentence for being convicted in the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts case. But the actor seems to be going through a tough time in prison.

Jail authorities have denied home cooked food for the actor and asked him to eat food provided by the jail authorities. The Supreme Court, has given special permission to allow Sanjay Dutt, have home food for a month, which the jail authorities seem to have no clue of.

According to the prison manual, only under trials, on medical grounds can avail this liberty. “Sanjay Dutt is a convict and cannot be given the privilege”, says a jail authority.

Sanjay Dutt had requested the court to allow him to have home food. He also had requested for carrying his basic necessities like toothbrush, undergarments, and medicines and requested for e-cigarettes. The Supreme Court, although denied permission for carrying cigarettes, had allowed Sanjay Dutt to take other basic necessities and also granted permission to have home food.

The actor has been spending quiet time inside the jail and mostly relaxing in his cell. He also has been following the jail routine separately from other inmates. The actor has completed several of his projects, which include ‘Policegiri’, ‘PK’ and ‘Unglee’, before surrendering to the TADA court on 16 May.
