Jaya Bachchan is all set to make a comeback into television the second time around. This time not as a producer but as an actor.
The show, a fiction series, titled Vasundhara is based on a Gujarati Novel. Jaya Bachchan plays the main protagonist of the show that will trace the life of a single parent. To be produced by Endemol, it will be aired on Sony Entertainment Television.
Jaya Bachchan has full support of her husband Amitabh Bachchan who has been super successful as an anchor on television with Kaun Banega Crorepati, India’s answer to Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?
“Jaya is my wife and while talking to her we decided about it. She wants to work and I am very happy about it,” said a very happy Mr. Bachchan.
Prior to this, Jaya Bachchan launched a production house Saraswati Audio Visuals Pvt Ltd, which is now merged with AB Corp. She produced a super hit comedy Dekh Bhai Dekh. It premiered on Doordarshan’s metro channel (DD2) on May 6 1993 and was on air till 1997. Subsequently, there have been several re-runs of the show on DD National, Sony Entertainment Television and SAB TV till 2005.
Dekh Bhai Dekh was directed by Anand Mahendroo and starred Shekhar Suman, Navin Nischol, Farida Jalal, Bhavana Balsavar, Deven Bhojani, Sushma Seth, Vishal Singh, Nattasha Singh, Urvashi Dholakia and Divya Seth and is considered as a classic, among Indian television shows.
Jaya Bachchan has been one of the top ranking Bollywood stars in her times and have been a part of films like Zanjeer, Mili, Abhimaan and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Kal Ho Naa Ho, just to name a few.
