Karan Johar’s Villainous Act

Karan Johar might have made an appearance with Shah Rukh Khan as his friend in ‘Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge’ and played himself in several special appearances, but here’s something that one would have never expected from Karan Johar, maybe even Karan himself.

MUMBAI: Karan Johar has directed several hits and is currently riding high on his latest flick ‘Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani’ and its success. But there is bigger news, which seems to surprise every one of us.

It was around a decade and a half ago that Karan Johar had made an appearance as Shah Rukh Khan’s friend in ‘Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge.’ The director since then made small appearances as himself or played small roles in films like ‘Luck By Chance’, ‘Om Shanti Om’, ‘Fashion’ and several others. But the biggest casting coup that has surprised many, is that the director has been cast alongside Ranbir Kapoor for Anurag Kashyap’s ‘Bombay Velvet’. The even bigger news is that Karan Johar will be playing the main antagonist in the film.

“It is true that I am acting in Bombay Velvet and it is unusual for me. The narrative blew me away. Since I am playing the role of an antagonist, there are grey shades to my character,” said Karan Johar.

An excited Anurag Kashyap adds, “Karan is just fantastic for the script. I actually wanted to bounce ideas off him but he liked the script and I ended up casting him.”

Ranbir Kapoor, must be acknowledged in a way to achieve this great feat, as he was keen to have the talented, multifaceted director on board. This would be Karan Johar’s first major debut on the big screen. He would be playing a rich business tycoon in the period film, who will play a major role in influencing Ranbir Kapoor’s character of a street fighter in the film.

‘Bombay Velvet’ also stars Anushka Sharma in the lead. Fox Star Studios and Phantom Films are producing the film. The film is the first among a trilogy about the city of Mumbai becoming a metropolis.

Well with Anurag Kashyap and Karan Johar joining hands, this surely is a killer combination to look out for. But what is more deadly is to look forward for Karan Johar’s villainous act.
