MUMBAI: Kundan Shah’s 1983 classic ‘Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro’ till date remains as India’s best comedy films. The cult status it has achieved over the years just shows how anticipated audiences are for the sequel announced by Kundan as back as 2010.
But sadly with actor Ravi Baswani’s (Naseeruddin Shah’s partner in crime in ‘Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro’) untimely death in 2010, the sequel hit a roadblock. But with Irrfan Khan giving the nod to play the actors part in the sequel, looks like the project will take off soon.
Irrfan Khan will reprise Baswani’s role while Naseeruddin will play his original character. Irrfan also has had an extensive narration of the film and once he comes back to the city, the actor will discuss and hear the next narration from director Kundan Shah.
“I am a big fan of the film. Plus I have always looked forward to working with Naseer. I find it fascinating that Kundan still has the energy level and excitement of a first-time director”, says Irrfan Khan.
Incidentally the actor also had shared a close friendship with Ravi Baswani and has agreed to do the ‘Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro’ sequel as his tribute to the late actor.
Like the first even the sequel will be a satirical take on Indian society. Kundan Shah also plans to rope in most of the original star cast including Satish Shah.
Irrfan Khan is currently busy with promotions of ‘The Lunch Box’ and Naseeruddin Shah done with ‘John Day’. With the two versatile actors joining hands looks like we are in for a roller-coaster ride.
