MUMBAI: Farhan Akhtar seems to be going the whole hog to promote his social awareness campaign, ‘MARD’ i.e. Men Against Rape and Discrimination. Farhan was seen last night on the TV show Extraaa Innings IPL T20 to further his cause.

With the trademark ‘MARD’ moustache firmly in place, the handsome, socially-aware actor-director was seen discussing the urgent need to sensitise men, and teach them to respect women, an objective he aims to achieve with his campaign.

Farhan spoke to cricketing legends Sunil Gavaskar and Ajay Jadeja about his tie-up with IPL, where he will be distributing 70,000 mustaches on the 26 April match between Shah Rukh Khan’s Kolkata Knight Riders and Preity Zinta’s Kings XI Punjab to spread his message.

Akhtar is a man on a mission to spread awareness about gender inequality and rape through the active use of social media.

Farhan Akhtar has been actively encouraging his twitter and Facebook followers to join the ‘MARD’ campaign and become its ambassadors. His posts have time and again read: “It can only spread as a pyramid effect through you”.

The objective of ‘MARD’, says Farhan, is “to drive home the message that women need to be respected.”
