Oscar follows a tradition of paying homage to the late people of industry who left remarkable performances in our hearts. During the ‘In-Memoriam’ montage at Oscars 2017, where they pay homage to the lost icons of Hollywood, it was a moment of grief yet pride to have seen late actor Om Puri’s name being mentioned. Oscar’s act was then appreciated enough by the people in India. While people appreciated this move, there were many who were disheartened and disappointed by Bollywood’s awards hosts for not mentioning his name.
The actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who shared screen with Om Puri in Bajrangi Bhaijaan and was also supposed to work in his next, Manto, slammed the Bollywood award shows. This is what he wrote, “@TheAcademy #Oscars paid homage 2 late #OmPuri, But in #bollywood award functions nobody converse single word for his contribution… SHAME”.
Om Puri was 66 when he passed away after suffering a major cardiac arrest. The incident took place at his residence right after he returned from shooting.
Nawazuddin Siddiqui, last seen in Raees opposite Shah Rukh Khan will next be seen in Manto. He was last seen as a lead in Haramkhor.
