MUMBAI: When Amitabh Bachchan asked Kimi Katkar to ‘Jumma Chumma de de’ in all-time favourite movie Hum (1991), audiences could not stop singing the number. Such was its popularity. Now, Ranbir Kapoor is set to ask the same question to Deepika Padukone in their upcoming Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. Will they be able to capture the magic?
Dharma Productions was looking for a track that would suit Ranbir’s personality – something naught with beaty rhythms, and narrowed down to this famous track. It is believed that Karan Johar, director Ayaan Mukherjee, Ranbir and Deepika wanted to use one of Amitabh Bachchan song’s in their movie because they are huge fans and hence this choice.
The original song was a duet between Kavita Krishnamurthy and Sudesh Bhosle and was composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal. This new version will have Ranbir singing some of the lines himself! Adarsh Gupta, Business Head, Saregama, has stated that the Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani team has acquired the rights of the chartbuster. Now, whether Ranbir and Deepika will recreate the choreography too or if they will put their own spin on it is not yet known.
