MUMBAI: Ranbir Kapoor has mostly played the chocolate boy hero and the diehard romantic in films like ‘Rockstar’, ‘Bachna Ae Haseeno’ and the soon to be released ‘Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani’.
While his counterparts have already ventured into high-octane action films, fans and followers eagerly await when Ranbir Kapoor makes the next move. Their prayers seem to have been answered. Pretty soon.
The ‘Rockstar’ will be playing the role of a street fighter in Anurag Kashyap’s ‘Bombay Velvet.
“It is an intense role which requires me to be a fighter, boxer, somebody who is charged up and excessively aggressive. The film is set in the 60’s and I play an ambitious street-fighter”, says Ranbir Kapoor.
‘Bombay Velvet’ directed by Anurag Kashyap is the first story of a trilogy that Anurag Kashyap is working on. The film also stars Anushka Sharma of ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’ fame.
Reportedly ‘Bombay Velvet’ was in an apparent financial mess initially, when producers Viacom18 had backed out due to creative differences with Anurag Kashyap. The film is, now being produced by Fox Star Studios and Anurag Kashyap’s Phantom Films.
Whether Ranbir Kapoor succeeds in this new avatar and flexes his muscles, we have always liked him for being the sweet, die-hard romantic hero. But we must say, tough times ahead for Ranbir Kapoor.
