MUMBAI: If recent developments in the Rani Mukherjee-Aditya Chopra love saga are to be believed, the couple is all set to tie the knot next year!
Time and again, news has trickled in of Rani and Aditya’s impending nuptials. With some sections of the industry swearing that they are already hitched, latest buzz suggests that the much-in-love couple will walk down the aisle in January, 2014.
Said a source, on condition of anonymity: “Rani will get married in grand filmi style to Yash Raj Films scion Aditya Chopra in January 2014. The couple is finalising the date according to the shubh muhurat decided by Aditya’s mother Pamela in consultation with the family priest.”
The couple was meant to get hitched last year itself, but the sudden demise of Chopra family patriarch Yash Chopra threw the wedding plans off track.
The insider added: “Yashji fell sick during the making of the film (‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’) and the dutiful son (Aditya) took over the reigns. He was in London for the better part of the year, as was Rani. This being a big film as Chopra Sr was returning to the big screen after a long break. He wanted energies to be focused on the film and nothing else, so the wedding was put off till after the release of the film.”
“According to Punjabi customs, no festivities or celebrations take place till after a year of death of a family member. The 365 days following the demise of a close relative is called an impurity period,” the source continued. And now, with the stipulated one year coming to an end, wedding preparations in the Chopra household are reportedly in full swing.
Rani’s film career has as much as been put on hold, with her last major release ‘Aiyya’ being in 2012. This year, Rani appeared in a short film in the conglomerate ‘Bombay Talkies’ and has signed no new release, barring ‘Mardaani’ with Pradeep Sarkar, under the YRF banner. Industry sources insist that ‘Mardaani’ will be Rani’s finale act, after which she is expected to retire from films and help her hubby run the Yash Raj Films studio.
Another factor for speeding up the Adi-Rani wedding seems to be Uday Chopra, who wants to settle down quickly with his girlfriend Nargis Fakhri. Aditya and Uday’s mother Pamela Chopra allegedly wants to see both her sons settle down. So once the elder brother ties the knot, Uday too can plan to walk down the aisle with his lady love.
