MUMBAI: It was a week packed with ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’ moments for Bollywood. While the film fraternity brought in two star birthdays of Priyanka Chopra and Katrina Kaif, they grieved the demise of Pran, an actor who left a mark with his acting. It’s been a year since Bollywood bid adieu to Rajesh Khanna but the legacy of the star still stays on.
2 Star Birthdays – Katrina Kaif brought in her 31st birthday on 16 July. She has just returned from a long holiday with Ranbir Kapoor from ‘Ibiza’. But it was triple celebration as Katrina Kaif brought in her birthday with Aamir Khan in his new house along with a special screening of ‘Ship of Theseus’. To add a cherry to the cake, Ranbir Kapoor has apparently gifted her a diamond ring. After all diamonds are a girl’s best friends.
Meanwhile our Babli Badmash, Priyanka Chopra also celebrated her birthday but it was a very low-key affair considering it’s just been over a month since her father’s death. But the actor sneaked away from the special screening of ‘Ship Of Theseus’ and joined Shahid Kapoor who was holding a party in honour of Priyanka’s birthday. Looks like things are just getting better between the two actors. Will there be a new ‘Teri Meri Kahaani’? Will have to wait and watch.
Death Of A Star – If there is one name that can be remembered for being ‘BAD’ in Bollywood, it had to be the legendary Pran saab. In the age of heroism, Pran was someone who made bad look equally good. The recent awardee of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, Pran acted over 350 films, the most notable of them being films like ‘Don’, ‘Zanjeer’, ‘Upkar’, ‘An Evening In Paris’ amongst others. The actor breathed his last at the age of 93, after a prolonged illness at Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital. With Amrish Puri and Pran Saab both being regarded as the finest villains, the industry has lost the men of the golden era. While a few of Pran’s co stars, the likes of Amitabh Bachchan, Danny Denzongpa, Tinnu Anand, Raza Murad were present at the funeral, several others gave it a miss. Actor Raza Murad was displeased and expressed his angst, “If this would have been an award ceremony, a crowd would have gathered. It’s sad that for someone like Pran, who gave 40 years to the industry, one cannot spare 40 minutes.” We truly agree with Raza Murad on this. RIP Pran Saab, we will miss our Pathan.
Moving On…A Year Later: It’s been one year since the iconic Rajesh Khanna graced the lord’s feet. But the vibes of the legendary actor and the memory of his movies still live on. That’s the prowess of our very own Babu Moshai. From his impeccable comic timing in ‘Bawarchi’ to his powerful emotions in films like ‘Amar Prem’ and ‘Aradhana’, kaka left a void amongst his fans. On the eve of the actor’s first death anniversary, fans paid a riveting tribute to the actor by unveiling a statue of the actor at Bandra Bandstand. Kaka has left us, but his memories and his charm will continue to floor us, just like his movies.
This is our top moments for Bollywood this week. Until next time…
