Shahid Kapoor’s Udta Punjab Lands In Plagiarism Trouble!

‘Udta Punjab’ is one of the most controversial movies of the year. With its sensitive take on drug abuse in Punjab and its tiff with the Censor Board, the movie has been in the headlines ever since its release. The film starred actors Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Diljit Dosanjh and Kareena Kapoor Khan in lead roles. The film grabbed all the positive reviews for its eye-grabbing concept and execution.

Moreover, the performances in the film were also applauded. The box-office collections of the film were also above average. It’s already been months since ‘Udta Punjab’ released and yet again the movie has landed in some trouble.

The ShahidAlia starrer has now landed in the hassle for plagiarism. A news report recently stated that ‘Udta Punjab’ was inspired from High Society, a novel by Ben Elton. The reports stated that the movie has similar characters, concepts and issues like in the book.

Many reports then also traced the striking similarities between the two things. A few things are also identical to the book. Anurag Kashyap has now clarified that there is no question of plagiarism because his team had itself researched a lot in Punjab before the movie commenced. The film is made on the basis of the research done by the team.

Sudip Sharma who has written the film ‘Udta Punjab’ admitted that he had read the book High Society but he hardly remembers any of its components. Moreover, he states that Traffic by Steven Soderbergh is his inspiration.
