It was the fatal day of December 21, 2013 when around 06:15 pm, Sridevi heard her elder older daughter Jahnavi scream as the air conditioner in one of the room had caught fire. The fire was caused due to a short circuit and thanks to Sridevi’s presence of mind that she immediately switched off the mains of their residence, and the fire did not spread to the other parts of the house. At the time of this mishap, Sridevi, her mother-in-law, both her daughters Jahnavi and Khushi as well as their domestic help were present.
Around that time Sridevi and her manager Punkej Kharbanda were leaving for a meeting with top-notch advertising officials. Fortunately, everyone in the house was evacuated on time. While Sridevi’s mother-in-law, who stays upstairs was safely moved to her younger son Sanjay and Meheep Kapoor‘s house in Juhu. Sridevi along with her family spent the night at filmmaker Raj Kumar Santoshi’s house who happens to live close by. Raj Kumar Santoshi and his wife Manila have been really close to Boney and Sridevi. In fact, when Raj heard about the incident, he rushed to be with Boney.
Looks like Sridevi has to very soon start house hunting because her entire house is in shambles. It needs a complete makeover and that it would take months before they can come back and stay in the house.
What is really upsetting Sridevi is not the fact that she lost her entire wardrobe to the flames but the fact that her art collection has turned to ashes including a painting of her favorite performer Michael Jackson, that she had herself painted and gifted to her daughter on the pop star’s death anniversary.
When contacted, Sridevi’s manger Pankaj Kharbanda confirmed the news, “Yes, amongst the damages, is Sridevi’s painting of Michael Jackson.”
