MUMBAI: The remake of Bollywood hit film ‘Zanjeer’ has been in a pool full of troubles ever since its initiation. Recently, the Supreme Court has ordered a stay against the release of the neo ‘Zanjeeer’ starring Ram Charan Teja, Priyanka Chopra, Sanjay Dutt, Prakash Raj, Mahie Gill and Atul Kulkarni.
Previously, the Bombay High Court granted permission to Adai Mehra Productions Pvt. Ltd. (AMPL) to produce and release the remake of the 1970 Amitabh Bachchan starrer, subject to promoter Amit Mehra settling the pending dues to his brothers Sumeet and Puneet Mehra. SEE REPORT
However, in an appeal to the apex Court of India, Sumeet and Puneet have acquired a stay against the release of ‘Zanjeer’. The Supreme Court has ordered an arbitrator to complete the settlement proceedings quickly and completely within a period of the next six weeks.
“The matter now rests with the arbitrator. We wouldn’t like to elaborate further,” said Amit’s lawyer.
The remake of late producer-director Prakash Mehra’s blockbuster hit film ‘Zanjeer’ ran into trouble when Puneet and Sumeet terminated the contract that gave Amit the remake rights in the first place. The brothers alleged that Amit bought the remake rights from them but failed to pay the payments amounting to crores of rupees.
