Tips Films’ ‘Race 2’ Under Fire From Court For Alleged Nudity, Vulgarity

The makers of ‘Race 2’ have come under fire for alleged use if nudity and vulgarity, with the Delhi High Court expressing displeasure over the film’s contents based on a PIL filed to it.

MUMBAI: Tips Films’ ‘Race 2’ has come under fire for alleged use if nudity and vulgarity, with the Delhi High Court expressing displeasure over the film’s contents based on a PIL filed to it.

The Court has issued notices to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the CBFC, the Delhi government and the director of the movie. The bench commented that ‘Race 2’ is teaching children “indiscipline” and that the filmmakers should be more responsible.

“You are always into your business.. Please sit and think where the film industry is going. You have earned so much money. You are teaching indiscipline to the children,” said a division bench of Chief Justice D Murugesan and Justice V K Jain, while hearing a PIL against the film.

The HC’s rap on the knuckles came post a PIL filed by one Teena Sharma, a social worker who has sought an immediate ban on the screening of ‘Race 2’ in theatres and on TV channels as well as a deletion of scenes involving nudity, vulgarity and double meaning dialogues.

Sharma submitted that “obscenity and vulgarity had been injected into the film arbitrarily as it had no relevance to the theme of the film.” Her grouse is also that the film, which is screened across 50 countries, has been given an ‘A’ rating in 40 of these countries, while in India it has been granted U/A certification.

“Our censor board is very generous. Nowadays, censor board is not doing its duty properly. Nowadays, you have TV in each room. We have now developed a culture that children sleep in separate rooms and they are provided TV also… Parents don’t take their children to theatre now,” said the bench.

However, for now the High Court has refused to stay the television release of film saying, “We are not experts and have not seen the movies. How can we stay the films on the basis of photographs we saw here.”

Response from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Central Film Certification Board and producers of the films is sought by May 14, the next date of hearing.

The petition was also filed against Salman Khan’s Dabangg 2 for its ‘Fevicol Se’ song featuring Kareen Kapoor Khan. The PIL said “in the lyrics of this famous song in Hindi film, a woman is compared to a grilled chicken to be eaten with alcohol”.

When we got in touch with Tips Films’ Ramesh Taurani his response was an agitated, “I would not like to comment.”
