2014 is going to be a big year for bollywood. Just as 2013 will forever be remembered as the centenary year for Indian cinema, 2014 will be remembered as the post-centenary, i.e. the 101st year. In many ways then, 2014 will usher in a new era in Hindi cinema, as it rightly should.
The lineup for 2014 looks incredibly promising indeed, with several big budget, big-ticket films slated for release this year. The three Khans have big bollywood releases lined up, as do the Kapoors, Roshans, Kumars and Khannas.
Happy New Year– Farah Khan’s ensemble cast film, Happy New Year is the biggest, most anticipated bollywood release this year. Shah Rukh Khan will come together with his Om Shanti Om and Main Hoon Na director, and his OSO heroine, in this widely touted film. Happy New Year starring SRK, Abhishek Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, Boman Irani and Vivaan Shah, will see a bumper Diwali 2014 release.
Fan– SRK’s second big release, coming out towards the far end of the year, will be Maneesh Sharma’s Fan for YRF. Shah Rukh Khan teaming up with Aditya Chopra is always magic, so Fan will be something all SRK fans will be looking forward to most eagerly.
Jai Ho– Giving stiff competition to SRK’s above bollywood films, will be Salman Khan’s Jai Ho. Directed by his brother Sohail Khan, Jai Ho stars Salman, Tabu, Daisy Shah and Sana Khan. Jai Ho is geared up for release, and will screech into theatres end of this month. The songs have already created a huge buzz, as have the dialogue promos. Add to the fact that Salman is attempting to deliver a socially relevant message, and this film already looks like a sure-shot winner.
Kick– Salman’s second release this year, which will come out around Eid, is Sajid Nadiadwala’s Kick. This is his subsequent Eid release, after the stupendous success of Ek Tha Tiger last year. Kick will roll into theatres in July, 2014
P.K. The third Khan can’t be left behind in the race for 2014, and has an equally big-ticket film lined up this year. Aamir Khan is teaming up with Rajkumar Hirani once again, for P.K. this year. After the blockbuster success of their previous collaboration, 3 Idiots, the two look poised for great things. The film also stars Anushka Sharma and Sushant Singh Rajput, and releases this June.

Just like the Khans, other major Bollywood A-listers too have potential blockbusters on the anvil.
Bang Bang– Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif will be seen together again, in Siddharth Anand’s Bang Bang. The film is a remake of the Hollywood superhit Knight and Day, and is the infamous film during the filming of which, Hrithik Roshan suffered his head injury. Nevertheless, audiences will be excited to see Hrithik Katrina together again, in October this year.
Gunday– Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor will be displaying plenty of bromance in this Ali Abbas Zafar directorial. All the while, with Priyanka Chopra for company. YRF’s next release, Gunday, will blaze into theatres on 14 February, 2014.
Bombay Velvet– Another much-awaited bollywood film this year is Anurag Kashyap’s Bombay Velvet. Starring heartthrob of the nation Ranbir Kapoor, along with a surprise package in bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar (who is playing the villain), Bombay Velvet also stars Anushka Sharma and releases on Christmas, 2014.
Detective Byomkesh Bakshi– Dibakar Banerjee’s interestingly titled film based on a detective series, stars Sushant Singh Rajput and is under the YRF banner. The film will come out in December, 2014.
Dedh Ishqiya and Gulaab Gang– Madhuri Dixit’s comeback films, Dedh Ishqiya and Gulaab Gang have already generated a lot of pre-release buzz. The diva will be seen in two diverse roles, the likes of which she has never been seen in before.
