MUMBAI: Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar’s ‘Oh My God’ directed by Umesh Shukla, featuring Paresh Rawal, Mithun Chakraborty and Akshay himself, has taken an average opening at the box office in its first weekend.

Day 1 – Friday was extremely poor with only about 35% occupancy. The collections from Gujarat gave it a mild push, but the rest of the country was dull.

The first day collections came in the range of Rs 40 million (Rs 4 crore) net.

Based on a Gujarati play ‘Kanji Virudh Kanji’, the film got great reviews from most critics, especially Paresh Rawal’s performance. This probably went a long way for the film which picked up on Saturday and Sunday.

The three day total of ‘Oh My God’ is approximately Rs 170 million (Rs 17 crore) net.

Though the surge is a good sign, the total opening collections are still lower than expected.

The positive word of mouth is likely to help the film in the coming days. Tuesday being a national holiday may offer a good boost.
