MUMBAI: ‘Race 2’ directed by director duo Abbas-Mustan has maintained its firm lead at the Box Office over its first week. The film, which stars Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone, John Abraham, Anil Kapoor and others, had taken an incredible flying start in the opening weekend, but has slowed down since.
As we had reported, day 1 saw a good box office figure of Rs 150 million (15 crore) net. This headstart was maintained over its second day (26th January being Republic Day), where the film managed to garner an astounding Rs 205 million (20.5 crore) net. Day 3 (Sunday) was fair with collections of Rs 151 million (15.5 crore) net.
Monday and Tuesday saw the reins slip, where ‘Race 2’ managed a steady Rs 68 million (6.8 crore) net and Rs 62 million (6.2 crore) respectively.
On Wednesday and Thursday, the film further slipped in collections, and only managed in the ranges of Rs 56 million (5.6 crore) net and Rs 50 million (5 crore) net respectively.
However, ‘Race 2’ is still the clear winner at the ticketing windows, since other releases like ‘Mai’, ‘David’ and Hollywood films aren’t doing big business at the box office. Even Kamal Haasan’s ambitious and controversial film, ‘Vishwaroopam’ has seen a dull start at the box office on its opening day. The Priyanka Chopra- Govinda starrer ‘Deewana Main Deewana’ has proved to be a total washout.
‘Race 2’ has managed to rake in Rs 742 million (74.2 crore) net over its first week. However, going by the trend, the second week for ‘Race 2’ may not be as profitable.
