Box Office: Furious 7 Races Past Detective Byomkesh Bakshy

This week two films released in India, Dibakar Banerjee‘s Bollywood film Detective Byomkesh Bakshy and the 7th instalment from Hollywood’s Fast & Furious franchise, Furious 7 and boy, the race is already over! Yes, racing past Byomkesh Bakshy while on its way to the finish line, Furious 7 broke all the records set by any Hollywood film so far at the Box Office.

Sushant Singh Rajput starrer film Detective Byomkesh Bakshy opened to a slow start at the Box Office. The film received 30 to 35% occupancy rate. However, film was predicted to have a good start at the Box Office as it was a Good Friday, a holiday. The film managed to pull around Rs 4.50 Crore (45 millions) at the Box Office on its first day which is decent enough.

Film received a lot of compliments for its direction and performance by the actors. In the coming weekend, having a Hollywood blockbuster film Furious 7 as a competitor, things don’t really look that great for director Dibakar Banerjee‘s film. But we still expect the film to do a decent business at the Box Office.

On the other hand, Furious 7 smashed all the opening records set by any Hollywood film in India and minted around Rs 12 Crore (120 millions) on its first day itself. American action drama is released in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. The English and Hindi version itself earned around Rs 11 Crore (110 millions) at the Box Office on its first day.

The film happens to be late Paul Walker’s last film. Directed by James Wan, Furious 7 stars Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Dwayne Johnson and Bollywood actor Ali Fazal in a special appearance. The film received compliments and applauds from the critics. Furious 7 is expected to beat 2015’s highest grossing Bollywood film Baby’s record, which featured Akshay Kumar.
