Box office: Kahaani gets off to a good start, but Chaar Din Ki Chandni goes slow

MUMBAI:Kahaani, starring Vidya Balan, had a release on over 1000 screens and it opened business by colecting aproximately Rs 22 million (Rs 2.2 crores) on the first day of its official nationwide release. West Bengal did exceptionally well, thanks to the fact that a large part of the movie is based in Kolkata.
Including the paid preview on the Thursday 8 March, 2012, the opening business of Kahaani is estimated to be almost Rs 30 million (Rs 3 crores). Collections steadily grew over the weekend, reaching a total of around Rs 130 million (Rs 13 crores) by Sunday, doing especially well in Mumbai, West Bengal and Mysore.
On the other hand, Chaar Din Ki Chandni which had low key promotions, opened on around 700 screens and the overall first day collections have also been rather low. Its Thursday opening saw a better response in North than in Mumbai. On Friday, the movie collected around Rs 10 million (Rs 1 crore), faring better in the North and in Gujarat. By Sunday, the film managed to net only Rs 35 million (Rs 3.5 crores).
