MUMBAI: After opening to net box office collections of Rs 104 million (Rs 10.40 crore) in India on Day 1, the Hrithik Roshan starrer Kites saw a minor drop at the box office on its second day with net collections of approximately Rs 86 million (Rs 8.60 crore).
Kites’ opening day net collections have been second best to 3 Idiots, which did Rs 130 million (Rs 13 crore). Paid previews of the movie fetched approximately Rs 17.60 million (Rs 1.76 crore). The total net collections of Kites’ two day run in India including paid previews stands at Rs 207.50 million (Rs 20.75 crore).
On the other hand, Housefull in it’s third week now has done total net collections of Rs 660 million (Rs 66 crore) across India and Yash Raj Films’ Badmaash Company has done net collections of approximately Rs 280 million (Rs 28 crore) in its two week run.
According to information available with Businessofcinema.com, Kites saw a drop of around 10 – 15 per cent across metros on Saturday as compared to Friday. However, the drop in the interiors was steep on the second day. The movie received major flak from exhibitors in the Tier II and III cities as the spoken language in the film is primarily English rather than Hindi. While some English and Spanish dialogues have been sub-titled in Hindi, some haven’t. This in turn has left many exhibitors discontent as the movie has not been received well by the audience.
Saturday also saw Kites playing across Karnataka, where it missed out its screenings on Friday due to the ban. However, the issue was resolved and Kites released in the state with 23 prints on Saturday.
