box office Main coverApril 04, 2014 saw the release of Varun Dhawan’s Main Tera Hero and Purab Kohli starrer Jal. While on one hand, Main Tera Hero did get a decent response, Jal turned out to be a disaster.

Main Tera Hero did have a lot of pre-release hype to it. The film opened on an average note with the Box Office collections showing a downward trend on day one. Now this could be because of the fact that in the evening India played in a very important cricket match.

Main Tera Hero on day one has managed to collect around collections were around the Rs 55.70 million (Rs 5.57 crore) nett as per early estimates which is not that good but Saturday, March 05, 2014 will tell how much the cricket dented the film.

Main Tera Hero has been made at a cost of around Rs 35 to 40 crores which includes the cost of promotions as well it’s release. If Main Tera Hero needs to be in the safe zone then it’s very crucial that it shows good collections on Saturday, March 05, 2014 because on Sunday, 06, 2014 it may again take a beating as India has reached the finals and collections of Main Tera Hero may be hit hard again.

Jal the second release this week and has taken a very poor start. DAR Motion Pictures released Jal across three hundred eighty odd screens, which meant that film was targeted only for niche audience.

Jal directed by Girish Malik has been screened at various film festivals including the New Currents Section of the Busan International Film Festival 2013 and in the Indian Panorama Section of the Busan International Film Festival.

However, Jal has managed to collect about Rs 09 million (Rs 90 lacs) nett as per early estimates on day one and going by the reviews from both the critics as well as the public, it’s likely to go further down.

Next week, April 11, 2014 will see Bhoothnath Returns hitting the theaters. Also the election fever catches on. Now will this impact the collections of both Main Tera Hero and Jal is to be seen.
