MUMBAI: For Producer UTV Motion Pictures, director Anurag Basu, and actors – Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, Ileana D’cruz – this is a great time.
While their recently released ‘Barfi!’ has been selected as India’s official entry for the Oscars this year, the film is performing fantastically at the Box Office.
The first week performance was exceptional with collections coming in the range of Rs 585 million (Rs 58.5 crore) net.
The rave reviews and positive word of mouth carried the film even through its 8th day when Madhur Bhandarkar’s Kareena Kapoor starrer ‘Heroine’ was released.
The highest collections came from Mumbai, Delhi, UP, East Punjab, West Bengal and Mysore.
Even the second weekend has seen a terrific surge, especially since the news of being selected as India’s official entry for the Oscars has come out.
With the major business coming from multiplexes, the ten day total of ‘Barfi!’ has already touched Rs 760 million (Rs 76 crore) net.
The positive outlook suggests that the next milestone is not too far away.
