MUMBAI: Both come for the royal ‘first family’ of Bollywood. But Ranbir Kapoor’s deaf and mute character seems to be giving cousin Kareena Kapoor’s glamorous avatar a run for her money.
The bitter-sweet romantic story of a deaf and dumb boy in “Barfi!” seems to have touched the chords of viewers who are still flocking to the theatres to savour the unconventional romantic flavour. On the other hand, “Heroine”, with an an overdose of glitz, doesn’t seem to have the same effect on the moviegoers.
To compare the figures: Barfi! which released one week before Heroine collected Rs 9.8 crore net on Day 1. Heroine on the other hand only garnered about Rs 7.5 crore net on its first day.
Barfi!’s first weekend collection was Rs 34.8 crore. While Heroine visibly slower collected Rs 24 crore in its opening weekend. By this time barfi! had finished ten days, and one would assume that it would fetter down considering cinegoers would prefer the newer movie.
But surprisingly the opposite happened. While Heroine started falling rapidly, Barfi’s oscar announcement gave it fresh boost. As of now, Heroine at 6 days has collected a total of Rs 34.5 crore net, and Barfi! at 13 days has collected a total of Rs 84.65 crore net.
Both the films have been produced and distributed by Disney UTV.
