[tps_footer]Salman Khan starrer film ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ has finished its first weekday run at the box office and performed better than speculated. The film had already made records on its opening day and gradually joined the list of top weekend collections and so on. With the second Friday here, the film’s first weekday run has finished at a better than speculated rate. The film was said to collect around Rs. 155-157 crores after its weekday run, but ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ has surpassed the same by raking in Rs. 160 crores net approx (1.60 billion).
After the total collection of Rs. 160 crores net approx, the film ranks fifth in the list of highest first week collections after films ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’, ‘PK’, ‘Dhoom 3’ and ‘Kick’ considering only the 7 day week. ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ released on a Thursday which was Diwali and hence enjoyed an extra day’s run at the box office. After a long time a large scale movie has performed so well across India showing good response throughout the country.
Out of all the areas, the major response has surely been from the Gujarat belt followed by Mumbai, Rajasthan and to some extent Uttar Pradesh. Although in the Northern region, Gujarat has proved to be the film’s savior by making up for the unresponsive sectors of Delhi. Unfortunately Delhi region stopped reciprocating to the film after the first few days putting all the burden on Gujarat. But due to the extended holidays there, the film managed to recover.
Friday performance is most crucial for ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ as that determines how fast it can achieve the 200 crore mark which the film is now aiming for. Now there is only 40 crore mark left for the film to cover during the second weekend in order to touch the 200 crore mark. Given the hype received by the film and less competition faced at the box office, the number seems easily achievable.
