MUMBAI: It seems like Reliance’s production house, Reliance Entertainment is in a spot of trouble.
A slew of top level exits, an array of non-performing films and not too many projects in the pipeline have put the future of the company under the scanner.
Recently, top management like Priti Shahani and Amit Khanna put down their papers. We repeatedly tried reaching out to Reliance BIG Pictures CEO Sanjeev Lamba for comment, but he remained unavailable.
Reliance has been facing choppy waters in Indian cinema off late, with their noteworthy films of 2013, like ‘Commando’, ‘I, Me Aur Main’ and ‘David’ failing to do big business at the box office. Their last decent performer was in 2012, with the Aamir Khan starrer ‘Talaash’. Prior to that, most of their 2012 films bombed.
This, from a bumper year like 2011, where Reliance’s productions like ‘Don 2’, ‘Bodyguard’ and ‘Singham’ ruled the box office.
Upcoming projects of Reliance Entertainment include ‘Besharam’, starring Ranbir Kapoor and ‘Zanjeer’, which has already seen a world of trouble with its remake rights and surrounding controversies.
