MUMBAI: With every Eid comes Salman Khan: this has been the case over the past couple of years. There was ‘Dabangg’ in 2010, ‘Bodyguard’ in 2011 and ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ in 2012.
Unfortunately that partnership has been broken in 2013, with Salman Khan’s next film ‘Jai Ho’ (earlier titled ‘Mental’) being postponed to early next year. Shah Rukh Khan has taken up Eid this year with his next offering ‘Chennai Express’.
But the superstar will return to his usual spot in 2014, with his next film ‘Kick’. Kick is to be directed by Sajid Nadiadwala. As Eid falls on a Sunday next year, on 27 July, the team has decided to release the film on that very day.
A source says, “Sajid wants to make the most of the holiday. And if Eid falls on Monday, it will still work in the film’s favour.”
It’s not the first time, a film will not release on a Friday. Over the years, many films have released on other days to take advantage of factors like a public holiday or extended weekends. Just last year, ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ released on a Wednesday, while ‘Shah Rukh Khan starrer ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’ released on a Tuesday.
This year too, the Akshay Kumar-Sonakshi Sinha starrer ‘Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobaara’ releases on a Thursday (15 August) while Hrithik Roshan’s ‘Krrish 3’ will release on a Monday (4 November, Diwali).
Let’s hope that Salman Khan’s lucky date with Eid proves successful for him again. Till then, his fans can wait for ‘Jai Ho’, directed by Sohail Khan, which releases on 24 January, 2014.
