[tps_footer]January 12, 2014 was a night to remember as The 71st Golden Globe Awards were announced in which the Hollywood Foreign Press Association hands out awards for its picks of the best of film and television. It is considered to be a messy dress rehearsal for the Oscars.
But this year, it literally got messy! Just a few hours before the ceremony was set to begin a pipe burst and water sprayed onto the carpet outside the Beverly Hilton. A good portion of the red carpet became sopping wet before Beverly Hills fire officials arrived to stop the leak. Crews then moved in with wet/dry vacuums to soak up the mess. As for the awards themselves, the best men surely won!
12 Years A Slave pulled off the most important win of the night, earning Best Motion Picture (Drama).
Leonardo DiCaprio accepted the award for Best Actor In A Motion Picture (Comedy Or Musical) for his role in The Wolf of Wall Street. This is Leonardo’s second Golden Globe for best actor in a comedy or musical category.
Matthew McConaughey won the Best Actor In A Drama for Dallas Buyers Club, while Cate Blanchett was handed the Best Actress Statute In A Movie Drama Category for the Woody Allen flick, Blue Jasmine.
Writer and director Spike Jonze won Best Screenplay for critical darling Her and Jared Leto, won the Best Supporting Actor for his role as a transvestite in Dallas Buyers Club. After picking up both the New York Film Critics and L.A. Film Critics prizes, this win could mean that chances are good that the once-retired Let and he could very well be on track for an Oscar.
A tearful Amy Adams beat Meryl Streep for Best Actress In A Comedy for her role in American Hustle. Bryan Cranston was in for a surprise as she was announced the winner in the Best Actor Category In A TV Series for his starring role in Breaking Bad which also won the in he Best TV Drama Series.
Jennifer Lawrence, who arrived at the ceremony wearing a white, blousy dressy, took her first big award as she was announced the winner for The Best Supporting Actress for American Hustle.
The star of Blue Jasmine Cate Blanchett, who arrived wearing an elegant, cap-sleeved black lace gown, was nominated for Best Actress In A Drama Series. She had stiff competition with Sandra Bullock for her role in Gravity, as well as Kate Winslet, Judi Dench and Emma Thompson but then was ecstatic when she was announced the winner.
