British Broadcasting Company (BBC) which has its own division BBC America in the U.S. will soon be launching its very own online streaming service for the American audience. Aiming to reach its audience directly through the VOD portal, BBC will be launching its very own version of Netflix consisting of British shows and movies. The decision comes as a pleasant news to masses in general who follow British shows like Sherlock, Dr. Who, Downtown Abbey and more.
BBC’s director general Tony Hall announced the same during a recent TV convention at Cambridge, England. He stated, “Over the next few years, we intend to work with global partners to grow Worldwide further, taking advantage of the demand for British programming and new digital opportunities. We’ll begin to try out businesses that go direct to the public. Next year, we’re launching a new OTT video service in America offering BBC fans programs they wouldn’t otherwise get.”

Hall further concluded by saying that the same will help them showcase British actors, creativity of their program makers, and celebrate British culture. No further details like the pricing of the streaming service, list of shows that would be available for watching online, name of the online streaming service etc has been revealed yet. The wait for which is still on after the official annoucement.
Earlier it was also revealed that online streaming giant Netflix might soon expand their market and enter India in 2016. The ever growing rate of mobile and internet users in India is one of the potential reasons why VOD service giants are aiming to penetrate Indian markets at this point of time. According to reports India has about 970 million mobile subscribers which is number 2 behind China that has 1.27 billion subscribers. The number is said to cross 1 billion by the end of 2015.
