The 57th Annual Grammy Awards was a grand event held at Los Angeles. With many Indian faces amongst the nominees, this year’s Grammy Awards saw a mark of Indian artists on it. India-based Ricky Kej won an award for Best New Age Album for his collaborated album Winds Of Samsara. Out of the two ladies nominated for the Grammys Neela Vaswani managed to bag an award but Anoushka Shankar was left behind.
Star of the evening was singer Sam Smith, who bagged 4 awards for his song Stay With Me and his album In the Lonely Hour. Best New Artist, Best Pop Vocal Album, Record Of The Year and Song Of The Year. Sam Smith has definitely raised the bar for himself by winning four Grammys on his very first nominations.
Other artists who won awards were Beyoncé who bagged three awards along with husband rapper Jay Z. The award show also saw a beautiful performance by the diva. Singer producer Pharrell Williams won three awards, rappers Kendrick Lamar and Eminem won two awards each.
Performances of the night were, Chandelier by singer-songwriter Sia amongst others. Bridesmaids actress Kristen Wiig was one of the dancers during Sia‘s performance of Chandelier, alongside 12-year-old Maddie Ziegler. Sir Paul McCartney, Kanye West and Rihanna performed their collaboration FourFiveSeconds.
Highlight of the evening was when US President Barack Obama used Grammy function as a medium to share a powerful video about domestic violence and se***l assault. The president addressed the fact that musicians have the power to influence and address a lot of social evils. The president used a mass-appeal event like the Grammys to spread the word about preventing se***l assault.
