It’s a sad day for Muppets fans as the son of The Muppets and Sesame Street Creator Jim Henson, John Henson, has died of a sudden massive heart attack on February 14, 2014.
John served as a shareholder and board member of The Jim Henson Company. He leaves two daughters, Katrina, aged fifteen and Sydney aged ten and his wife Gyongyi. A private service is being planned.
A representative for The Jim Henson Company confirmed this news on its official Facebook Page on Saturday, February 15, 2014.
“It is with great sadness that we confirm that John Henson, son of Jim and Jane Henson and brother to Lisa, Cheryl, Brian and Heather, died at age forty eight of a sudden massive heart attack on Friday, February 14, 2014 while at home with his daughter. John served as a shareholder and board member of The Jim Henson Company. A private service is being planned.” the representative said in a statement.
John’s famous father passed away in May 1990 at age fifty three from an abscess in his lungs. John was a puppeteer for the Muppets and performed as Sweetums the ogre in a variety of films including The Muppets, Wizard Of Oz and Muppet Treasure Island.
John Henson has four older brothers, one of whom is Dan Henson, the President and CEO of GE Capital, Americas. Another is Frank (Bubba) Henson, teacher at St. Luke’s School, New Canaan, CT.
John studied acting at Boston University, Circle in the Square, Playwrights Horizons and Three of US Studios in New York City and has starred in various theatre productions such as Rosencrantz And Guildenstern Are Dead, Conduct Unbecoming, Heinous Crimes And Other Delights, The Greenhouse Effect and Remote Evolution.
John’s collogues as well as his fans have sent their condolences to all of John Henson’s family and friends at this sad time.
