TOP MOMENTS: Mallika Sherawat’s “American” Accent To SRK’s Surgery

There’s more to Bollywood than just movies. Here are the week’s best and worst moments from B-Town from Mallika Sherawat's ridiculous interview to SRK's surgery

MUMBAI: There’s more to Bollywood than just movies. Promotional events, grand launches and lunches, gossips and war of words, Bollywood is incomplete without this buzz. Here are the best and worst moments of the week that was, in B-Town.

Birthday Party or Fight Club – Kunal Khemu’s birthday bash turned into a fight zone, when a few words sparked between Salman Khan’s behena Arpita Khan and Lisa Bocarro, a small time model-actress. While Soha Ali Khan made sure that her beau’s birthday is a rollicking affair, it surely was for the news it made. The heated argument and fight only ended once when another bhaiya aka Sohail Khan came and calmed down a roaring Arpita Khan.

International Icon: Really? Mallika Sherawat makes news wherever she goes. She might have gained international fame with her miniscule appearances in several Hollywood films, but success seems to have gone into her head. She was quoted making sweeping statements about Indian women being regressive and not having the freedom in her motherland. Sadly, her antics did not go well with Former Miss-World, Priyanka Chopra who lambasted the star. And what’s with that fake accent Mallika Sherawat?

Operation SRK: Shah Rukh Khan, who had been sustaining a pending shoulder surgery ever since Ra.One could not bear it any longer. A daredevil stunt during ‘Chennai Express’ caused trouble to his right shoulder and the actor had to undergo a shoulder surgery once again. The actor was admitted at Lilavati hospital and discharged within three days. While doctors say he will be out of action for six-weeks, the star wants to resume work soon. Get well soon SRK.

Preity’s ‘Ishkq In Paris’: Should we celebrate that the film finally got a theatrical release or should we cry, as the film received a thumbs down from critics and audiences. A bad IPL season and now a bad start as a producer, nothing’s working for Preity Zinta. She said that if Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan can launch newcomers why can’t she. Sadly, even ‘Fast and Furious’ drifted faster than ‘Ishkq In Paris’. Thankfully Colors has brought the film’s satellite rights. So rejoice. Time to be happy. We want that smile again.

Want to share a beer? – Karan Johar’s 41st birthday did not make as much news as Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif sharing a beer at his party. Well the director had anyways said he did not want a celebration. It was Aarti Shetty, daughter of Manmohan Shetty, who threw him a bash. But Ranbir-Katrina grabbed all limelight. Deepika Padukone, who also was present in the party, preferred maintaining a safe distance. ‘Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani.’

Food Troubles: Sanjay Dutt’s jail woes never seem to end. First it was about what work he will be carrying out in jail and now it’s denial of home food in spite of court giving special permission. Yerwada jail authorities have filed a plea, to not allow Sanjay Dutt have home food, as the prison manual does not allow it. He is a convict and will have to follow jail rules. Sadly, even Sanjay Dutt’s gandhigiri does not seem to work here. Pity!

RIP Rituparno Ghosh – After Satyajit Ray, Mrinal Sen and Ritwik Ghatak, it was only Rituparno Ghosh who came close to these legends. It was a sad moment for the entire film fraternity as they lost a great icon, a great director-actor-writer. Rituparno Ghosh passed away in Kolkata due to a cardiac arrest. The 49-year old, multiple National Award winning filmmaker made a mark with his 20 odd films, all bold in themes exploring sexuality and gender. His contribution to Bollywood is one film ‘Raincoat’ with Ajay Devgn and Aishwarya Rai, but his contribution to Indian cinema, unparalleled. Rest in peace Ritu Da.
