MUMBAI: Atlas international Film GmbH has picked up the international sales rights to Joseph Vilsmaier’s latest theatrical feature, Nanga Parbat, a drama about the mountain climbers Günther and  Reinhold  Messner  and  their  spectacular  first  ascent  of  the  Rupal face at Nanga Parbat, the highest vertical face on earth – an expedition from which only one brother returned alive.

Reinhold Messner, who cooperated as consultant to Nanga Parbat, is often cited as one of the greatest mountain climbers of all times. He is renowned all over the world for being the first climber to ascend all fourteen 8,000m peaks and for making the first solo ascend of Mount Everest without supplemental oxygen.

Nanga Parbat will be screened at Cannes on Tuesday, 18 May.
