MUMBAI: For six-time Grammy Award winning multi-platinum megastar group The Black Eyed Peas – will.i.am, apl.de.ap, Taboo and Fergie – it has been a year to remember. This week, as the Peas’ worldwide 7.33 million-selling #1 album The E.N.D. moves into its 59th week on the Billboard 200 albums chart (still bulleted inside the Top 20 after more than 13 months out), its landmark single “I Gotta Feeling” (released June 2009) becomes the first digital download ever to pass the 6 million threshold.
"It’s incredible to have the Black Eyed Peas put their first album out 12 years ago and evolve into what they are today; it\’s a sign of true greatness. I just want to take this opportunity to congratulate some people I really care about," said Interscope Geffen A&M chairman Jimmy Iovine.
“I am so proud to be leading our industry with 6 million digital sales. It means so much for the future of the music industry,” said will.i.am.
“This is an incredible accomplishment for us. Of all the exciting news that has happened to us over the past year, reaching this 6 million mark with ‘I Gotta Feeling’ stands out as one of our proudest achievements,” said Taboo.
“Congratulations to all the people behind the scenes who made this happen, and most of all the fans – they are the best!” added Fergie.
