Mumbai: Star announced that Daniel Cheung has been appointed chief executive officer of Star Taiwan and that Jason Siu, currently general manager of Star Taiwan, will move to a newly created position in Hong Kong as general manager of Chinese Movies, Star.
Cheung, who has been serving as CEO of Star JV and Indonesian terrestrial channel ANTV, has a multitude of experience in Taiwan, holding key positions including COO of China Network Systems, a formerly held cable joint venture between Star and the Koos Group and general manager of Star Taiwan. Prior to that, Cheung was responsible for leading the distribution and marketing activities for Star across Greater China as deputy regional director for Greater China.
Siu will now be based in Hong Kong, overseeing the operations of leading Chinese movie channels Star CHINESE MOVIES and Star CHINESE MOVIES 2. He will report to Star president entertainment Todd Lituchy. Siu will also work with the recently launched Fox Star Studios joint venture to explore and develop Chinese film production projects for local and worldwide distribution. He has more than 15 years of experience in the movie and television industry and has been with Star since 2001.
Aiello commented, "Cheung is a veteran TV executive with an in-depth understanding of the market and unrivalled experience in broadcasting and distribution through his earlier roles, many of which have been in a leadership position covering the Taiwan market. Bringing in someone of Cheung’s caliber underscores our commitment to Taiwan and our confidence in the prospects for this market. I am confident that Cheung will be able to capture the growth opportunities out there and spearhead our Taiwan business to exciting new heights."
Aiello continued, "I would like to thank Siu for the important contributions he has made towards our Taiwan operations. As Star expands its business into filmed entertainment, we’ll look to Siu to leverage his core skills in Chinese content production and his in depth understanding of the movie business, both as far as our highly successful Chinese movie channels go, as well as contributing materially to our newly formed joint venture Fox Star studios."
