Mumbai: Will Smith starrer Hancock opened at the number one position at the US box office.
The film collected an estimated $66 million over the Friday-to-Sunday weekend period and $107.3 million since its release on 2 July in the US.
The three-day average was a strong $16,646 from 3,965 locations. The film is the highest box office grosser for 2008.
Hancock is Smith’s eighth consecutive number one opener to break the $100 million mark.
Co-starring Jason Bateman and Charlize Theron, Hancock offers up a new take on the superhero story with a central character that drinks, curses, and roughs up children. The PG-13 film cost a reported $150M and Smith served as producer as well as star.
Hancock is being premiered in Mumbai on 7 July. It will release theatrically on 11 July. Percept Picture Company is distributing the film all India, except South.
