IC Places taps $9.6 billion US movie ticket sales market

MUMBAI: IC Places, Inc. has partnered with CinemaSource to offer showtime information and movie tickets for all of its US City Websites.

Under the agreement CinemaSource will supply IC Places with complete theater and showtime information for 39,000 US theaters. Site visitors will then have the ability to purchase movie tickets via IC Places City sites and its upcoming wireless app instantly and seamlessly. The information will be updated every minute offering IC Places site visitors the most up to date and accurate information possible.

West World Media (parent of CinemaSource) founder and CEO Brett West said, "We are pleased to add IC Places to our growing list of highest quality media companies that receive their movie content exclusively from West World Media."

CinemaSource will also power IC Places sites with stats for the highest weekly grossing films and a list of the all-time biggest box office winners. Other site enhancements will include an in-depth Movie Guide, which includes every film that has played, is playing, or soon will be playing in theatrical release. The movie guide offers plot synopses, trailers, photos, release dates and cast lists amongst others.

In 2008 movie ticket sales climbed to $9.6 billion in the US and Canada and $26.7 billion globally, both logging five per cent increases according to a recent LA Times article. Ticket sales this year are up 17.5 percent, according to a box-office tracking company.

"If that pace continues through the year, it would amount to the biggest box-office surge in at least two decades. It’s a perfect time for IC Places to enter the online movie ticket business. Our Instant Movie Review, 1st Look Series and Instant DVD Review shows are experiencing millions of views each month online and on TV. This agreement allows us to capitalize on these views and convert a percent into ticket sales thus opening up an entirely new revenue stream for IC Places," said IC Places president Steven Samblis.
