Imax, Lincoln Square Cinemas ink deal in Washington State

MUMBAI: Imax Corporation and Lincoln Square Cinemas have signed an agreement to install an Imax theatre in the top performing multiplex in Washington State.

Under the terms of the sales agreement, Lincoln Square Cinemas will install Imax’s new digital projection system at its flagship multiplex in Bellevue, Washington during the second quarter of 2009.

To date, Imax has signed contracts for more than 200 Imax digital projection systems, with 34 currently in operation and approximately 45 scheduled to be in operation by year end.

"We take great pride in our commitment to providing the best experience for our customers, and we’re very excited to incorporate the Imax brand and The Imax Experience into our operation. Imax’s digital projection system has made it much easier for us to get into the Imax business, both economically and logistically, and the immersive power of Imax will make it much easier for our customers to get into the movies – literally," said Lincoln Square Cinemas founder Phil Harris.

"Our digital projection system is creating new opportunities for us with respected regional exhibitors such as Lincoln Square Cinemas, and it’s fueling the significant growth of our network. We’re looking forward to installing our latest technology into the top performing multiplex in Washington State, as it will extend the reach of our brand to new audiences at an established and highly visible location," said Imax co-chairmen and co-CEOs Richard L. Gelfond and Bradley J. Wechsler.

"Lincoln Square Cinemas’ proven knowledge of the Bellevue/Seattle market combined with their unwavering commitment to state-of-the-art technology makes this an ideal relationship for Imax. Their ability to install the new system during the second quarter of 2009 enables them to capitalize on some of next year’s exciting Hollywood Imax movie slate," added Imax executive vice president, theatre development Larry O’Reilly.
