Los Angeles, CA: Fandango, the nation’s largest online, phone and mobile movie ticketing
service, reports that Snakes on a Plane swallowed 62% of Thursday’s ticket sales. In a recent Fandango online
poll, 41% of respondents said they plan to see the movie on opening weekend. In other summer movie news, Fandango recently surveyed several thousand ticket-buyers and found that:
• Summer 2006 Movies Had More Appeal: 59% of moviegoers said they found this summer’s movies more interesting than
the movies released in the summer of 2005;
• Fans Saw More Movies This Summer: 44% of moviegoers said they went to the theater more often this summer than last summer;
• Critics Don’t Affect Moviegoing: 71% of respondents said they are not influenced by the reviews of professional critics in making their moviegoing decisions. Fandango hasenjoyed a record-setting season of Web site traffic, with 5.7 million unique visitors in July 2006 (according to Nielsen//NetRatings),
up 50% compared to July 2005’s 3.8 million unique visitors. These numbers represent the strongest growth rate in the movie ticketing category.
