MUMBAI: Screen Actors Guild has appointed Damon Romine as director of communications with effect from 1 April, 2009.
Romine comes to the Guild from the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) where he served as director of entertainment media.
Romine will report to Screen Actors Guild communications executive director and spokesperson Pamela Greenwalt. He will be based at SAG’s headquarters in Los Angeles and will focus on day-to-day department administration, writing and editorial duties for the Guild’s Screen Actor magazine. Romine will also work closely with Greenwalt on the implementation of several strategic communications initiatives underway at SAG.
“Damon’s extraordinary background and expertise in communications make him a valuable addition to our team. I know he will serve the members of Screen Actors Guild well,” Greenwalt said.
Romine’s 20-year career in communications includes a stint as communications and marketing consultant for the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Foundation where he produced member publications and educational materials. At GLAAD, Romine directed the organization’s national entertainment media strategy and created GLAAD’s Be an Ally & A Friend public education campaign.
“This is an exciting time to join the team at Screen Actors Guild. SAG is a terrific organization and I look forward to working with the Guild’s leaders and staff to further the interests of its members,” Romine said.
