MUMBAI: With the highly anticipated sequel to the 2008 Iron Man movie scheduled for release this year, Sakar International is gearing up for a complete line of branded Iron Man 2 spy gear inspired by Robert Downey Jr.’s billionaire industrialist turned Super Hero.
The products are being developed under a license agreement with Marvel Entertainment, following Sakar’s earlier Marvel licenses for Iron Man, Hulk and The Amazing Spider Man.
The line is expected to include over a dozen SKUs ranging from spy watches, walkie talkie/voice changers and digital and video cameras to nightvision goggles, blacklight decoders, micro-listening devices and video game accessories. Availability will coincide with the movie’s planned opening on 7 May, 2010.
Iron Man 2 – again starring Downey Jr. – is a coveted license in light of the success of the first film. The 2008 version was the second biggest movie opening in history for a non-sequel. It was also the number one movie worldwide for three consecutive weeks and sold over 17 million DVDs globally.
"The Iron Man franchise lends itself to branded youth electronics because of the story line and gadgets like electromagnets and power suits that appear in the various Iron Man properties," said Marvel Entertainment president Consumer Products North America Paul Gitter. "Sakar’s line of spy gear will fit right in and provide good play value for any child who is an Iron Man fan."
