Sony converts new exhibitors to 4K digital cinema

MUMBAI: Sony continues to expand its 4K customer base with the addition of three unique and innovative circuits: Beach Movie Bistro, in Virginia Beach, Va., Vintage Cinemas in California and Zurich Cinemas in central New York State.

“Sony 4K projectors deliver the highest resolution and picture quality. The diversity of these  theater relationships demonstrates how Sony is able to provide everything for success in digital cinema that an exhibitor needs — regardless of their size — starting with the highest-quality 4K projectors and including flexible financing, technical support, service and more,” said Sony Electronics Digital Cinema Solutions Group senior marketing manager Dianne LaGuardia.

Beach Movie Bistro in Virginia Beach opened in May 2011, with seven screens equipped with Sony Digital Cinema 4K projection systems. The theater offers a gourmet-dining and movie-watching experience and is the debut facility in Virginia for Beach Movie Bistro Inc. It will be operated by Act V Theaters.

Act V President Robert Perkins added, "The decision to go with Sony 4K rather than 2K was a combination of wanting a great experience for audiences, but also future-proofing the theater. We wanted to install 4K so that we were one step ahead. We think the Sony system offers the best presentation and a really bright picture.”

The exhibitor is also looking forward to being able to show diverse types of programming, taking the “dine-while-you-watch” experience into different areas of entertainment, using digital technology. Beach Movie Bistro is the chain’s first launch outside of Oregon.
