MUMBAI: The UK Film Council National Lottery funded short film Soft, written and directed by Simon Ellis has won the Best of British Award at Encounters, a film festival for short films.
Lifesize Pictures’ Rebecca Mark-Lawson, who manages all of the UK Film Council’s short film activities says, “The British films selected for Encounters illustrate the vibrancy and diversity of short filmmaking across the country. Simon is an exciting and accomplished story teller and with Soft, he is attracting the attention of the international film world.”
This intimate and powerful story in which a father re-discovers his fear of confrontation at the worst possible moment, has already won the Best of the Festival prize at Palm Springs in the USA and is also nominated for a European Film Award. Produced by Jane Hooks and made as part of the UK Film Council and Film4’s Cinema Extreme short film scheme, Soft was made on a £50,000 budget.
