Vivendi Entertainment to distribute Boogie Town

Mumbai: Vivendi Entertainment (VE) has acquired theatrical distribution rights for Boogie Town, a mainstream, hip hop dance film. The distribution agreement also covers television, home video, internet/digital and mobile rights. The film recently began production and is currently shooting in California.

Directed, written and produced by Chris Stokes, the film stars Marques Houston, Brenda Song, Vanessa Simmons and newcomer Mykal Anthony Bean. Monique Scott and Cheryl Trimmer will also serve as producers. Additionally, Stokes has brought on Shane Sparks to choreograph the film.

Boogie Town, a modern day West Side Story for the hip hop generation, takes place in a New York City of the near future. In a society where battle dancing has been outlawed, illegal dance contests now take place in the underground world of Boogie Town. Micah (Houston) and Jay (Bean), leaders of rival dance crews, possess Herculean powers which take the battles to extreme levels. Despite the animosity between the two crews, Micah falls in love with Jay’s beautiful sister Natalie and the two become a future-day Romeo and Juliet.

Vivendi Entertainment president Tom O’Malley said, "Chris’ vision for You Got Served inspired a new generation of dance films. We’re thrilled that Chris will now call VE home. Boogie Town is the start of what we expect to be a long and rewarding relationship."

Christopher Brian Films founder and CEO Chris Stokes commented, "We are excited to partner with Vivendi Entertainment. O’Malley has created an open and collaborative culture committed to helping independent filmmakers like myself. VE is the perfect creative home for Boogie Town as well as for my future films."

Stokes has directed over 50 music videos and four films including You Got Served, which also starred Houston and grossed over $40 million in domestic box office. He is also the head of operations for TUG Worldwide, a multi-faceted entertainment company which encompasses a record label distributed through the Universal Music Group.
